    All about Sound

For the All Winners Festival we will be using the standard sound equipment available within the Rhoda McGaw Theatre. This consists of the following:

    • 1 x Tascam Mini Disk - set with Auto Pause
    • 1 x Denon CD player
    • 1 x Soundcraft Spirit 4 Live 12 channel mixer with parametric equaliser (shown above)
    • 2 x Hand held Microphones and stands
    • 2 x Fixed front of house speakers
    • 2 x Floating on stage speakers

Groups can of course add their own equipment to this set-up if they require. A full write up of how these facilities will be set-up and how then can best be used by an individual group are contained in this document.

The Sound operator sits in the control box at the back of the auditorium where the mixer desk and other sound equipment is located. From here the sound operator has a clear view of the stage and more importantly near exact hearing of the sound as the audience are hearing it. There are headsets available to allow communication between all backstage elements enabling queuing and other communications.

There are a few key things to remember when considering bringing sound to a Festival at the Rhoda McGaw which can best be highlighted as follows:

    • Make sure you have all you sound recorded before you come along
    • Ensure you check the levels of all your sound cues, especially where voiceovers are used and don't rely on what you hear in the sound box
    • Seek advice, even if you don't think you need it
    • Each group will need to supply their own operator
    • Rehearse with your sound at least once before you come to the theatre

Finally, as always, members of the Festival Stage Crew are available to help. We have had to rig some odd sound equipment in the past including PC's, extra speakers and radio microphones.
